New Training Dates set for Spring 2012

9th January, 2012 We are continuing with our programme of supporting professional development for crew and will be running VSAT Operators, Basic Satellite TV and generic ECDIS courses over the coming months. All courses take place in our training facility in Portals Nous, Mallorca.

The 50th Antigua Charter Show has just come to an end after a very busy, and by many accounts, succesful week.  The final event last night at the Copper and Lumber Hotel was the Crew Bash attended by hundreds of crew.  During the event Roger Horner, Managing Director of e3 Systems and Derik Wagner, Managing Director for Yachting of MTN Satellite Communications, announced the winners of the Photo Competition organised, arranged and sponsored by both companies.

The first prize of an iPad for Category 1 which was for the best artistic photo of a VSAT antenna went to Heather and Tim, chefs, on MY Numptia for this fabulous photo.......

WHAT IS GLOBAL EXPRESS (GX) FROM INMARSAT?

14th November, 2011. What is Global Express (GX)?

• GX will be a global Ka band VSAT service with a fully integrated L band backup.
• Time scale – regional service 2013, global 2014.
• Fast bandwidth up to 50Mbps downlink 5MBbps uplink on a 60cm antenna with fasters data speeds on a 1m antenna
• The bandwidth/airtime is planned to be cheaper than Ku band current VSAT services.
• Antennas will be cheaper and smaller from Sea Tel, Thrane & Thrane and a 3^rd, yet to be announced, manufacturer.
• Reliability will be not be compromised as Ka band service will be supported by the integration of an L band Fleet Broad Band (FBB) backup service. GX is being designed to work in all weather conditions.

Cobham Announces Launch Date For Sea Tel Ku-band To Ka-band Upgradable Terminal

7th November, 2011. CONCORD, California – Cobham will launch ahead of schedule the much anticipated Sea Tel Model 4012, the industry’s first and only highly-integrated one meter (1m) Ku-band to Ka-band upgradable marine-stabilised antenna system. It will be available for sale during the first quarter of 2012. The new antenna architecture can be upgraded to be fully compatible to work with Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) network......

e3 at Antigua & Barbuda ICTFest 2011 and preparations for the winter season

5th November, 2011.  e3 showcased their products and services at the Antigua & Barbuda ICTFest 2011 at the Multipurpose Cultural and Exhibition Center, Perry Bay, Antigua between 10th and 13th October. e3 launch new pre-activated DirecTV decoder service from e3 Antigua

6th October, 2011. Due to the bottleneck in DirecTV decoder activations, caused by hundreds of yachts arriving in the Caribbean simultaneously, e3 Antigua has launched a service to combat these delays and frustrations.

Any yacht can either order new, pre-activated DirecTV decoders with 6-month subscriptions, or arrange for existing decoders to be activated on a specific date to coincide with their estimated date of arrival......

EADS aerospace giant acquires Vizada

European aerospace giant EADS on Aug. 1 said it is purchasing Vizada of France, the second-largest distributor of Inmarsat mobile satellite services, in a transaction valued at $960 million that gives EADS’s Astrium Services division a major stake in L- and Ka-band mobile satellite systems alongside its established X-band capacity business for military users......

Veritais Signs Agreement with Leading Marine Electronics Company e3 Systems

4th July, 2011. Veritais has reached agreement with top marine electronics company e3 Systems to act as a distribution partner for the Mallorca-based company. This represents an extension of the Veritais business model that previously focused on specifying premium-level, on board entertainment systems. Under the new arrangement Veritais will now also be supplying VSAT, 3G Europe, GSM and Air time products, plus the full range of e3 IT and data services. The agreement also allows for a two-way partnership, with Veritais technicians available to provide dockside support to e3 customers.

Muted interest expected in Spanish LTE spectrum auction

1st June, 2011. Reuters said that some sources believe Spain’s third and fourth biggest operators (Orange Spain and Yoigo, respectively) will be the only potential participants in a spectrum auction set to be completed early this month, with the potential issue of frequencies suitable for LTE in the near future likely to have muted some enthusiasm............

Both can generate enormous and unpredictable communication costs compared to the fixed cost pricing of VSAT. However, now there is a fixed price option on Inmarsat Fleet Broadband which is highly competitive and will appeal to many vessels deliberating between Inmarsat and VSAT.......

Anti Mat Tax Protest - Hoot to Boot!

27th April, 2011. As one of the leading yachting companies in Spain we are very active in lobbying the politicians and powers that be to get them to scrap the infamous Mat Tax. This tax, and the fear of over zealous customs officers, is scaring away yachts from our beautiful Balearic Islands. The yachting community of Mallorca has come together to organise a noisy protest and it would be great to have your help. If you are in Mallorca please toot your horns for a minute every day at 12.00 between the 30th April and 8th May!

VSAT Operator Course dates

18th April, 2011. The next dates for the VSAT Operator courses are the 11/12/13th May and 16/17/18th May. The course is run by an MTN Certified Course Instructor and successful students will be issued with a certificate and the necessary information, manuals and software to operate and service an MTN stabilised antenna system........

The Antigua Charter Yacht Show was a huge success

The 49th Antigua Charter Yacht Show that took place in early December was a great success. The Show was at full capacity this year and all the available dockage was in use with a large number of very large yachts stern to in Nelson's Dockyard just metres from our office in the Officers Quarters in the Dockyard.

There were yachts and people everywhere......

FLIBS and FISH Update

5th November, 2010. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) closed on Monday. It appears to have been a succesful show with a widespread air of cautious optimism in the super yacht tents and along the super yacht dock.  Everyone I spoke with was eager to see an end to the recession and do whatever was necessary to encourage recovery............

e3 Antigua is now open for business 12 months of the year

Post Monaco Yacht Show Blues

5th October, 2010.  It's taken a whole week to get our feet back on the ground since the Monaco Show finished on 25th September.  The Show is clearly the best super yacht show on the circuit, it is always packed from start to finish with business being transacted and nets being worked right into the early hours of each morning.

Launch of eDSC

The eDSC, e3's new Data Service Controller has been launched. It is based on their original Service Selector and has had two new features added to it. The first is unique in that when used in conjunction with an Option 3G router it detect when the 3G service being used on the vessel is roaming and send automated warnings to select email addresses and alarms locally. This feature has been designed to avoid Bill Shock etc etc 

Commercial Marine VSAT contract

We are delighted to report that we have been recently awarded contracts to supply VSAT services to a growing number of commercial ships from various lines. This follows the successful work carried out on the P&O Cruise Ship Fleet and the prestigious QM2 and continues to demonstrate that e3 are at the forefront of marine VSAT services in both the yachting and commercial sectors.

Show Season

Show season will shortly be upon us and we are busy preparing our booths. We will be at Monaco from 23rd - 26th September (Stand QS 87), followed by Fort Lauderdale at the end of October, METS in the Super Yacht Pavillion (Hall 10, Stand10.614) and the Super Yacht Forum in November, and the Antigua Charter Show in early December. VSAT/TVRO Sat TV Operators' Training Course

Following the success of our first course in May we will be running a second course at the beginning of November. The course is aimed at engineers and ETOs and will focus on developing an understanding of satellite concepts and theory, hands on familiarisation of antenna components, and programmimg, operating, controlling and troubleshooting the equipment. The course will be led by an MTN and e3 certified training instructor and successful completion will lead to delegates being awarded an operator's certificate. Due to popular demand we have added on an extra day to this course to cover TVRO satellite TV issues. OPENING MALTA

We have recently signed a collaborative agreement with Melita Marine in Malta and will soon be opening a new office there. This is a result of many years spent working in Malta and is in line with our business plan to extend our services into major yachting areas. It also follows the opening of our Antigua office last winter.

Antigua

The office in Antigua will be opening its doors again at the end of November ready to welcome all clients visiting the Caribbean. We will also be working closely with our new Partner in Martinique, Douglas Associates, who is ideally situated to meet the yachts arriving on Dock Express to provide immediate satellite TV and VSAT conversions.
